2 IRLCMR Kamikawa

HIGHLIGHTS

Simply excellent performance by the referee from Japan! In all aspects - foul detection / selection, disciplinary control, leadership style - he was very good. There was a potential penalty for handling at 63', but given the defender was pushed, defensive freekick or no penalty was clearly the better call.

Both ARs, Mat Lazim Awang Hamat and Roland Van Nylen, were unchallenged, unfair to deduct any marks for one foul each missed in their vicinity - of course seen by brilliant Kamikawa even from far away anyway.

He should have been appointed for a further challenging game to assess his skills. An underused asset by FIFA!

Toru Kamikawa - 8,5
Mat Lazim Awang Hamat - 8,4
Roland Van Nylen - 8,4

  1. It looked like a very aesthetically pleasing performance, well done. I liked his interactions (e.g. the warning at 21'), game looked rather tame. I would have preferred a warning at 18' at least and I think the no penalty call is a good decision, no enlargement - maybe even less a penalty back then than today. Challenge in 7' is very interesting: clean but a scything follow-through. I rather see it punished, but it is hard to do so if the ball is played.

Cards: 30' vs 89' is a good definition for LoR vs SPA. First one is not really likely to develop into an attack (defender in front, more on the side, rather close to the sideline), but the holding is very blatant - surprising decision for the player, maybe Kamikawa was a trendsetter. 89' had the player with space to go and an option to pass. Maybe not the most promising position, but central and I agree with a YC especially for management reasons. 😉 51' is another hybrid of tackle and play; maybe one should define that a sliding tackle requires the hip to touch the ground - it seemed that this was the case in 82' although we got no replay. Both cautions were good choices. [LoR, Reckless play, Reckless sliding tackle, SPA].
