15 RUSTUN Prendergast
HIGHLIGHTS
Very easy going and almost totally (save the last five-ish minutes) pedestrian game for Peter Prendergast, who presented a very sober optic. He performed well. The crucial decision of the game, the penalty given to Russia in the 2H, was well-seen by the referee from Jamaica; ironically being caught behind play and in the diagonal channel probably helped him here.
There were some doubtful decisions though. One could argue that the first caution of the game should have been punished with a different colour card (a tackle as an 'attack'), and almost certainly, he should have ejected Tunisia no.5 for committing a simulation at 86', having already punished him for that with a yellow card earlier, when there might have been a small tug by the defender. All decisions taken, in the second two cases for lack of clear evidence, are ultimately supportable.
On a management level, certainly the biggest positive of an overall good performance was the card for unsporting behaviour at 50' - with the game calm, the referee did well to increase his presence, and come out from the background in order to remain in full control. Well done.
ARs were not really tested. My feeling is that Michael Ragoonath was wrong to raise his flag at 23', but considering we cannot see the exact moment the ball is passed, of course we should support him. Paul Smith had a quiet afternoon.

Solid in a game where there is little to say. Possible YCs in 2' (SPA for blatant holding) and 18' (Scissor tackle), management in 42' was good, I prefer that to two YCs actually. Penalty call fully correct, I trust him on the two dives, first one looked a bit harsh, so if I were to judge both of them together, I'd say one YC is possibly enough. (Although if the second was one, you should indeed be punished for being so stupid and cheeky.)
