26 BRACHN Frisk
HIGHLIGHTS
Very easy game to referee; man in charge of the last EURO Final was not required here. Anders Frisk correctly awarded a penalty to Brazil, the offender should have been ejected (DOGSO), but it seems the paradigm at the competition is not to punish offences like that with any card, so only a de jure mistake by the referee from Sweden. First caution of the game was inexplicably wrong; instead the defender should have been cautioned for a SPA holding. Perhaps one could argue the tackle at 69' was an SFP? In the end I'm glad Frisk punished it at all. I would add that let's hope the 'tackle' at 83' was an attempt to block the ball rather than anything else...
ARs were only busy in the half in which Brazil attacked in their direction; Leif Lindberg did well, Bomer Fierro was quite importantly mistaken at 54' in a tight situation.

Ronaldinho (24.) - Simulation Roque Junior (69.) - Tackle |

Another big European name enters the tournament and I must say, I was rather disappointed. While I would argue that there were no major de facto mistakes, this match was a rather easy one, so the comperatively high number of errors sticks out. YC for simulation for 24' is clearly wrong, a bad mistake - YC for CHN player for SPA would have been correct. Apart from that, further missed bookings for Reckless use of arms (21'), LoR pulling (43') and blatant DtR (90'+2). If we abide by the tournament terms of not giving a DOGSO RC for the pk foul, such blatant pulling in the middle of the pitch has yielded bookings in this tournament, no sanction is just wrong (45'). The YC in 69' is borderline: flying tackle, but the fact that there is no full contact will have been enough for no RC back then.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm putting too much stock in this match, but not a convincing showing from the EURO 2000 final referee in one of the easiest matches so far.
