While an interesting football match, not much happened regarding the refereeing. Gamal Al-Ghandour's style of staying in the background and being lenient worked fine. His soft skills are deceptively very good. However two potential SFPs (20', 81') went uncarded - there is no doubt about the latter, even if in both cases the optimal decision would be to eject the offender in my eyes.
Egon Bereuter had a very important offside call at 42', which I think he got right; Wagih Farag had quite a high number of offsides in the first half, while mistaken sometimes, he was more often right than wrong.

I'm quite sure he is well-liked, a great communicator and someone who connects with his players. But I feel that such skills don't balance out a lack of disciplinary. This match was easy-going football and yet two borderline SFP fouls in 20' (late stamp) and 81' (tackle to the ankle with the studs from behind, player had to be stretchered off) were unpunished. Unacceptable. Otherwise possible bookings in (24', 45') and a good no penalty call IMHO in 68'. Al-Ghandour may be one of the best when it comes to soft skills, which makes his lack of action worse - unlike others, maybe he could actually punish such infringements and "get away with it" in the eyes of the players. Or does he think that isn't worth the risk? Horrible advantage call at 20' seems to proove it - no intention to punish the foul, trying to avoid whistling despite the ball almost dying in the middle of the pitch. Not my cup of tea at all.
